OPs, I'm not sure if this is allowed. I asked Aziu, but she wasn't sure either. If this isn't allowed, please just remove it/lock it (whatever you do. ^^) I'm not requesting personal information, so I don't *think* it's against the TOS, but..

I got this email from my mom. I don't know who originally sent it to her, but here it is.

Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus! I checked Snopes, and it is for real!! Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP. PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS! You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled "You have received a POSTCARD from a family member," regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it. If you receive a mail called" POSTCARD," even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept. COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US.

Even if you don't have an email address, you should try to tell your friends, parent(s), or guardian(s) about it if they have an email address. Trust me, you don't want your disc destroyed. I lost ALL of my files, not to this virus, and I can't get any of it back. And if you don't have a back-up hard drive/computer, you probably won't be able to get on the computer for a while. - Ana

I have living proof that this is true. I was looking over my best friend's shoulder while working on a project, and she briefly checked her e-mail and got this message. Except it was worded slightly different. The next day her entire hard drive was erased, including the school project she was almost finished with. :shock: Beware.

I'm sorry to hear that, Tinawolf.

I hope you/she was able to finish the project on-time or get an extension of some sort. I truly wish people used their time to something better than making viruses. >.<

Her mom signed a note so the teacher could give her an extension to finish it.

But I'm almost paranoid about the same thing happening. I'll go post that on another place I know of..

Do you know that if the virus e-mail is in our inbox but if we don't open it and just deleate and/or report it will it still affect our computer? Cause I want to send this to my contacts but now I'm paranoid to check my inbox ><

Thats a good idea. Just set up a quick Norton Anti-virus search or something while you're checking your e-mail, then shut it down with the rest of your computer as soon as your done.

Norton screwed up our comp.. we had to get rid of it and get Shaw Secure to make it run properly again xD

Oh crap major typo! :shock: I ment to ask if it will still affect our computer, I don't know anything about this virus so I don't know if it will affect it by just deleating the e-mail or not. Sorry for the confussion. :oops:

You have to open the email to get it. If you get it, delete it immediately. I don't think you really need to shut your computer down, but you absolutely have to delete the email. You can also use McAfee and any other good anti-virus software. Norton doesn't work for anyone I know, it even crashed my grandpa's computer. Not that it really matters. With this virus, there isn't a fix. As far as I know, once your computer is infected - it's gone. For scanning anyway, I recommend you scan every night (like, after midnight), or every other night. Chances are, you won't be awake at midnight.. And if you want to do stuff online while you're running a scan, you're just going to mess up what your program is trying to do. (Like, saving another file to your computer, or getting more temporary internet files.. It's just more and more junk for your program to have to scan, or it could miss it until the next time.)

I'm just saying Norton as an example. I've never actually used it, but that's the only scan I've ever heard of.
