Two For One Deal! EDITED

edited January 2009 in Vent
First and most pointed rant - If you're going to fire someone, at least come up with a good reason. Seriously, "Someone told me they saw you stealing a cleaning rag" is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. One, I have never stolen a thing in my life. Two, don't take someone's job because of a ridiculous unsubstantiated rumor.

Second - Edited for controversiality?

Guess we should drop the conversation - would hate to offend anyone o.O;

  • well, it seems everyone is firing and no one is hiring. employers look for excuses to fire you. I got fired for forgetting to place a knife at one table, and being three minutes late.

  • Ouch o.o; That's a really silly reason, too.

I figure they fire because then they are not responsible for unemployment? I dunno how that works.

  • MY OPPINION ONLY: I think taking something out of the womb is murdering. That's just as bad as killing someone alive and well in MY OPPINION. Now, my soft spot. Get your cat fixed before they get pregnant! It's not hard. If you don't want kittens, fix your cats. That simple, I'm serious and I'm so sick of this too. If you don't want to have more to feed, spay and neuter. Don't take to long deciding.

  • Get a cat fixed in the first place but if it is already pregnant it depends on how long until the babys are due.
  • I am of two minds on that bit. I think, keep the kittens and find them homes (or take them to the shelter) and then get the cat spayed.. well, I'd like to say that anyway. Would make me a bit more likeable than the bit that I am actually going to say will...
The reason I say I am of two minds is that... while I could never exactly call myself a cat lover, I am an animal lover, and heartless as it sounds, it is probably better to terminate the kittens and get the mum spayed, because as it was pointed out, each kitten you find a home for kills the chances of another kitten, plus, with backyard breeding, or accidental breeding, you don't know the dad, and therefore the kittens could be temperamental and vicious.

  • The hard cold fact is - every kitten born is another kitten dead. That's the irrefutable logic of it. I'm sorry if that hurts anyone's tender psyche, but to live under any other impression is ignorance that harms innocents.

It isn't quite ignorance. I'm confused by your assumption. I've been raised to think this, and by all means think your own thoughts but ignorance is not the word I'd use for believing what I believe in. I'd not call yours ignorance either, because it has a point. I think ignorance was a bit harsh. You said it like no one else was allowed to think otherwise. Nothing against that. I was again just stating my opinion.

Also, that was a pretty sorry excuse for firing.

  • In this time and age, it's gotta be expected. With the way the global economy is right now.Employers will be looking to save money and if it means your job, so be it...Sad to say.

And spaying a cat while pregnant is the same as a women having a abortion. I agree with it, and it is pricey to get done too.

Some cases you can' help it. Either you keep you cat inside and it escapes that once and gets pregnant, or you pick up a stray and its pregnant, or you just do not realize that they are already at that age and you didn't realize. Or just plain irresponsibility and well you pay the price.

In short, do not criticize the ones who want to do the right thing but it was outta their hands, at least they are doing something even though it means innocent kittens lose their life. Like Xaetian said, if they don't there will be others that will.

  • I know that my statements come across as a bit harsh, and I'm glad to see opposing viewpoints, especially those that have been so well said!

I think it's something I repeat so often because of how strongly I feel about it. People like me, who are or have been responsible for those babies' fates, are those that are the most offended by certain viewpoints, especially when those viewpoints are made by people how have probably never had to hold that syringe. It's like how a social worker might feel if they're told that someone's choice to have unprotected relations resulting in a likely pregnancy doesn't affect them, when they often are given the heartbreaking burden of trying to find a place for all these unwanted, abused, neglected children to go. I know that many people feel that animals are less than people, be it because of a personal or religious perspective.

On one hand, I don't want to offend anyone - but on the other hand I kind of do, because if people aren't offended, they will overlook you.

I'm not trying to tell people that unborn kittens aren't important, that they don't live, that they aren't special - but are they any more special than the kittens that are already in the world, just because they're yours?

  • Personally, I am pro-life. But other than that, stuck in between. I'll just leave it there.

Those are indeed stupid reasons for firing someone. Actually, very stupid reasons.
With the way the economy is now a-days, every boss is looking for a reason.
My opinion? Get perfectionist about it and do your best ^_^

  • I'll just say that being a perfectionist isn't really relevant - if a company can't afford you they'll boot you out no matter how awesome you are lol
