so i drew a wolf lineart, i have someone else colouring a copy for me also (probably so much better than this piece of doggie poop. lol) but i thought that id try mi hand at colouring it. i came out better than i expected..but i still think it looks a bit off..anyone else think that? and what i could do to make it look better.

i really didnt like the other one so i took it off. it was bugging me that something that bad was just sitting on a post. lol

another one with try-to-be shading:

another, i have to colour his face but i think he looks pretty nifty. if anyone would like to buy something like that please tell because im thinking about making another character. this guy's name is Garret.

You need to add shadows and hilights to your colouring. You just block in the colours, which makes it look cartoony. (if thats what your going for, great job!)

If you want it more realistic, add a light source and plot your shadows and hilights accordingly. It really helps if you grab colours off a dog in a similar pose and plot them in the general area where you see similar colours.
i see..thank you. i was trying to go for a cartoon-kindof-look to the wolves and Garret. mostly coz garret is anime/manga and i though it would look pretty good. i still have to finish him though, i just dont feel like doing it right now. lol.
What are you using to color? If you are using a program with layers, you should put the lines on one layer and the colors on other layers. I can see where you blurred some of the line on Garret by accident.

Oh and neither of them have pupils, is that on purpose? I just am not quite sure because people have different styles and stuff.

That was good for an attempt with lighting. I am horrbile with that and when I first started I would just guess. For shadows on the face, they will be darker depending on how bright the light source is. The bighter the light the darker the shadows. For the highlights..well those would be brighter as the light gets brighter. If you aren't sure you can always get a flashlight and a mirror and stand in a dark room. Hold the flashlight where your source will be coming from. This will be a harsher lighting since the only light would be from the flashlight but it would show you where the shadows/highlights will be.

I hope that didn't sound too confusing. xD
no layer program until i get a nifty laptop to download one on. and it wasnt too confusing. and i did plan on the no pupils for garret and the wolf.
and thanx for the advice. garret is mi first and currently the only computer shading i have done so far.
