What Type of Fish For My 75 Gal.? Pics & Info.

edited May 2009 in General Discussion
SO... I still havent figured out what to put in my 75 Gal. tank yet. It's been cycled for over 3 mo. and has a 14" long Pleco (named Dragon) in it. He's been in there for about a month or so now. The nitrite, nitrate and PH levels, etc. are monitored every other day, and no spikes have yet been seen, even after adding Dragon.

I've been doing TONS of research on fish... And have become an "amature fish expert"... I know lots of things about various types of fish, even the 2 choices that Im about to list. I know the requirements needed for each fish, etc. I currently have a 14" long 10 yr. old Goldie who lives in a 75 Gal. tank at my ma's. And an 8 yr. old Beta who lives in a 10 gal. tank.

This post is just to get your opinion on what type of fish I should get... Not critisizing on anything, etc.

These are all fish that are pretty interactive with their owners. Which is why I like them.

SO for my first choice... The gorgeous Oscar.

Oscar:
<img src="http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss151/dodgersuperman/tigero.jpg"; alt="http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss151/dodgersuperman/tigero.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss151/dodgersuperman/fish-2588.jpg"; alt="http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss151/dodgersuperman/fish-2588.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
Size: 13+ Inches.
Lifespan: 10-13+ yrs.

Jack Dempsey:
<img src="http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss151/dodgersuperman/img0719.png"; alt="http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss151/dodgersuperman/img0719.png"; class="bb-image" />
Size: 6-10+ Inches.
Lifespan: 10-15+ yrs.

So pick the one you like. And if there are any other fish you'd like to suggest, go ahead. But I've searched TONS of fish, and dont really care for the smaller schooling fish. I like the more interactive fish.

 • I had a couple of Oscars when I was little, I would definitely not get more than one because if I remember correctly they attacked each other and that was how they died. And they were a male and a female, too.

The second fish is gorgeous x3

 • Oooooo, I like the second one! But the only fish I have any expirience with are goldies and betas, which you already have.

 • Some of my personal favorites are gourami. They're smaller, but are very interactive. I go by the tank and they rush over, trying to touch me through the glass with their feelers. So adorable. :P I keep two honey sunset gourami (one male, one female) and a male opaline gourami in a tank together, and though I was told they would fight, they get along quite well. But I have heard about other varieties of gourami being more aggressive.
 • a lion fish! they're kewl XD

 • I ended up going to my petstore again today... I think they're getting sick of me :lol:
ANYWAY... I went with a friend this time, and we chose some fish for a Community Tank.
The ones that caught our eye were;
Bala Shark
Dwarf Gourami (always been a pers. fave.)
Checkerboard Cichlid
Lemon Yellow Cichlid
Green Terror
Angelfish (always been a pers. fave. I know they're aggressive during mating time. lol.)

Of course Im not just going to go out and buy them, because I like how they look... TONS of research is going to be done to find out the conditions they like... Who's compatible with who, etc.

I dont know if Im going to get either a Jack Dempsey or an Oscar, but they'll be tiny when I get them (about 2" or so) or start a community tank... I kinda like the idea of breeding Guppies for feeder fish to feed to Oscars... Not sure if the other fish'll eat em though...
