Almost Got My Face Ripped Off (PICS)

So today, I woke up and didn't want to let the cat in because the door clicks and I didn't want to wake up my dad. When he woke up he said go ahead and let her in. She wasn't at the door, but I saw her little brown fur in the corner of her box on the patio. Little did I know it wasn't HER brown fur. I made cute little clicking sounds to get her out of the box, but when she didn't come, I took off the lid, and I about had a heart attack. It was a racoon and 7inches from my face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I slammed the lid down got in the house and my dad and I just kinda stood there.. Me: "Uh..." Dad: "Um....that's not KeKe." Me: "Yeah...." Dad: "So where's the cat?" Me: "Not in the box." So dad gets a rake and the lid to the box and carries the box WITH the racoon still inside to the middle of the yard. When he kicks the box....nothing happens He kicks it again...nothing -meanwhile I'm watching from the safe quarters of the house CRACKING UP!!!! If you've never seen a 54year old man try to get a racoon from a box, you've gotta see it- So he tips the box over and yells and kicks the box Nothing So he resorted to throwing rocks at it NOTHING It is currently still sitting in the middle of our lovely yard. It won't leave!!!! PS - I've got pictures!!! Dad just said: "Well I have to go get my rake, it's like taunting a wild bull." OH father you make me laugh!!! actually its been up in a tree for about 6 hours now. Its still up there. It's probably really sick and have rabie or something becauseits not scared of anything and wont come down from the tree

D'aww he/she is so COOT! I would not throw anything at it, I would leave it be. It's a wild animal and deserves it's peace.

I remeber when I lived in 10 acres of woods by a river, we would find Opossum in our garbage cans every morning and our cats killed a baby alligator...no idea where it came from. O.o

If it refuses to leave then it probably does have rabies. A rabid animal such as a coon or skunk will spread the disease to cats, dogs and about any other domestic animal. If you have a wildlife group around or even animal control, i would give them a call. All you need is for the thing to infect the neighborhood animals. >.<

These are symptoms of rabies: (They all are in different stages) Change in tone of the dog's bark Chewing at the bite site Fever Loss of appetite Subtle changes in behavior Craving to eat anything, including inedible objects Constant growling and barking Dilated pupils Disorientation Erratic behavior Episodes of aggression Facial expression showing anxiety and hyperalertness Irritability No fear of natural enemies Restlessness Roaming Seizures Trembling and muscle incoordination Appearance of choking Dropping of the lower jaw (in dogs) Inability to swallow, leading to drooling and foaming of saliva Paralysis of jaw, throat, and chewing muscles You can look on animalhealthchannel and find these symptoms and more info there.

Just because it's not moving doesn't mean it has rabies. ^^

I was joking. xD I do hope it'll be fine though. Though-either way, rabies or not, I would call animal control or such to get it, raccoons are dangerous. Be they have rabies or not. :?

A raccoon is a nocturnal animal. It is scared in the light. Leave it alone and you will probably not see it when you wake up in the morning.

I'm sure it's been in trees before xD. If it falls it falls. Not to be mean to the poor thing, but it is survival of the fittest. I just suggested to throw water at it to get it out of your yard. Water wont hurt it if it doesn't have rabies.

Hmm, if doesn't go away in a day or two I'd call animal control to get rid of it or something. I wouldn't want to have a rabid animal hanging around my yard! But then again I would want to see the poor thing get hurt either.

xDD I doubt it has rabies... :P And even if it did it would still leave, our neighboors had a raccoon in their yard/trees for several days..didn't mean it had rabies. ;D
