Temps

edited October 2009 in General Discussion
I finally decided to get my temps. I managed to pass the test. My mom made one mistake though. She laminated my social security card an hour before we left for me to get my temps. *sighs* We had to go to the social security office to get a print out. That just made me all the more nervous. I have been an ok driver for the most part. Almost wrecked once. I slowed down to turn but then my mom said I would have fun on the hill so i thought ahead and speed up to make it up the hill before i had finished my 90 degree turn. No one got hurt thankfully. I didn't get scared by that. So now my mother thinks there is something wrong with me. I think I agree. I know that should have scared me but it didn't. Anyone else have any driving stories or just recently get their temps?

 • I hate parking lots. I almost got hit twice so far. Someone was speeding through while I was pulling out (btw I couldn't see around because of the damn big trucks next to me) and I had to hit my breaks. Someone else was backing out of another parking lot and almost hit me. I had to use the horn and they came within inches of me :/ Who doesn't look when they back out? Lastly, I was turning to leave the school parking lot today and these kids tried to cross infront of me. I couldn't see them because of the angle I was turning and there was a van infront of me. They gave me stupid looks like its my fault for not notcing them right away. FYI, it was not a crosswalk or a spot people normally cross at. Stupid teenaged boys e.e

Oh and if you're up north, have fun in the snow. I got my license last year and almost right when I got it, snow started coming and my car had no heat.

a I'm up north. I hate parking lots too. I have driven around in a couple empty ones and then tried full ones. Very annoying. I try to pull all the way forwards if possible or back in. Much easier that way. Kids are soo rude. I don't really plan on getting my license till I'm 18. I don't really want to have to pay for driving school. Would rather save my money for college. Besides my parents don't really let me do much so don't really have anywhere to go besides church and boyfriends house.

 • What are temps? :S lol
 • Temps as in a permit, or a provisional license?

I got my provisional license in August, can't drive before 5AM or after 9PM and can't have more than one person in the car till February 25th, when I get my full license. I actually hate driving. xD

Yes temps are your temperary permit/license.

I really don't have that many restrictions. I can't drive from 12am to 6am. I can't have more than 1 person in the car that isn't family unless someone over 21 with a legal license is with me. So I don't really have it too bad. I just have to get my parents to take me out to practice. gosh you would think I was asking them to go have their wisdom teeth removed. I'm not that bad of a driver. I only messed up twice so far. Thats fairly good compared to some of my friends driving record. I don't really care either way about driving. The main reason I actually got it was my mom has some health problems and sometimes it hurts for her to walk and she can't really drive then. So I figured if I have my temps then I can drive for her when she isn't feeling good. Well as long as my siblings will get in the van with me again.

 • Oooh okay yeah they call temps over here Provisionals or for short P's Red P's and Green P's
 • Oh and if you're up north, have fun in the snow. I got my license last year and almost right when I got it, snow started coming and my car had no heat.

I will!!! It's really hilly/mountainous around here so we just have to go a lot slower- speed is when people start driving into the ditch and crashing and sliding. Also winter tires really help, but mostly driving like a senior (slowly and gently).

Around here "temps" are called Learner's licences. In my province when you get your learner's, they give you a red magnet with a black L on it to put on the back of your car so other drivers know. And then when you finally get your next licence, it's called Novice and you get a green magnet with an N on it. THEN you have to have your N for like 2-3 years and then get your regular licence. It's kinda weird here.

Ya, I got my L when I was 14, and then when had to retake it when I was 17 when I moved. I'm probably just gonna buy myself Driver's Ed ... my parents don't take me driving enough. :(

I think our states rules are different maybe? Where I live all we need is a temp/permit(same thing people use both names) which is what you get before you get your license. With a temp if you are under 16 you have to drive with your parent and if you're 16 and over you can drive with anyone 21 and over with a license. I can have whoever in the car as long as someone over 21 is with me. We only have 2 types of licenses. A temps with is what we get before we can drive on our own when we are learning how to drive and then the actual license.
