What to do with Preston?

I accidentally hurt a small mouse I found in my dishwasher. I didn't know what was moving at the bottom of it and quickly slammed the door, hurting Preston's paw. He can't really use it now... I'm assuming it got squished pretty badly because he was in so much shock he just sat there staring at me, not trying to run away like he had been a few seconds earlier. I didn't mean to hurt him and now I feel extremely bad. I don't know what to do with him... I'm not going to kill him! It's winter so I'm afraid if I let him outside, he'll just find a way back into the house again and get killed by my cats. D; We never used to have a mouse problem in our house because our outdoor cat killed them all before they got in the house... but what to do with Preston now? He's currently sitting in a big yellow bucket with a bowl over top so he can't escape. I have a few pictures.. he's pretty tiny. Keep him and get him a hamster cage or something until he recovers

Well, I don't know... we do have a hamster cage, but my sister's rabbit uses it as a litter box. So we'd have nothing else for him. And I don't know how long it'll take for him to recover... my mother's afraid of mice, she won't let me keep him long.

I could try and find someone... my best friends don't really like mice (or own rodents), but maybe one of the guys will take him...? Or if that's even a good idea. xD

It may be..or letting him go in a wooded area away from people homes

I could always do that, yes. ;D We have a forest right behind our house, if I took him back there far enough I'm sure he wouldn't come back... But I also find it unfair for me to do that to him during winter. Normally they have already-made burrows for the winter to keep warm. If I let him out back there NOW, where will he go for safety/warmth? Dx
