male names:
Addler - meaning eagle in german
Alf - meaning noble wolf in german
Alwin -meaning friend in german
Armen -meaning army man in german
Dederick - meaning first of the people; king of nations in german
Holden
Keenon

Female names:
Amalia - meaning work in german
Angelika - meaning angelic in german
Emma - meaning entire, whole in german
Leona - meaning lion in german

:]
Aw! Any idea what color you're going after?

I've always secretly liked German Shepherds xD They're so intelligent and loyal.

Just make sure you get to training it early with socialization. Being around agility & flyball dogs I've seen a few aggressive German Shepherds and they aren't easy to fix.

I REALLY want my GSD to be black but if I can't find one like that, I want the normal black and tan Yea, we plan on playing with him from the time he's a puppy (old enough to be handled of course) he's gonna be raised around my niece and nephew a lot and our families as well as other, small, dogs. hopefully that will keep him sweet but protective. ya know? I've been doing a lot of research on German Shepherds xD
Once he has his shots I'd consider taking him to pet stores and whatnot to. I have two dogs I raised from puppies... one we took to the pet store weekly, the other we did not.

The one we took weekly I feel totally safe taking him to public places. I trust him very well, and he is considerate toward other dogs and people. Just an example of what getting out can do. If you just have a puppy around certain people, it's just going to be adjusted to those certain people.

Especially if you plan to do anything social with the dog, I'd suggest getting it out early. There was a german shepherd puppy at dock dogs a couple weeks ago - events like that are great for puppies as well ;D A lot of the agility people bring their puppies to trials to get them accustomed to other people and animals. I wouldn't suggest agility myself... especially if it's an indoor trial since there are a lot of loud noises that could spook a puppy (teeter, for example. It even spooked Tucker who runs on them the first time we went to this trial building) Dock Dogs is outdoors though with tons of people and animals, but also tons of space to sit on the sidelines ;D

Should definitely try obedience or Rally-O with him/her. Even if you don't go to trials, just practicing for them will help with both training and owner/dog bonding ;D (I'd want to try Schutzhund with one myself)

And I loove the black ones That's what I'd want too.

Okay! Thank you =D I know we have pet shops around we have a few pets mart's around here but they are both an hours drive and my daddy works alot, but ill try to get there as much as possible! I know of a few town events where there are LOTS of people. Like around Halloween and Christmas. Halloween we have a huge Truck or treat at the square or in the school parking lot. During Christmas we have the Christmas parade and a few booths set up Would that be good?
Yeah. The only suggestion I have with those type of events is to make sure there are no really loud noises and that people are going to respect the dog's space. As much as going out helps, it can also harm. I wouldn't want your puppy getting spooked by noise or something. Now for halloween, it may sound silly, but dogs can get scared of the costumes too xD Even if -I- were to put a mask on, I know it'd scare my dogs, lmao.

Only reason I suggest dog events like dock dogs or dog shows or something... is that those people know how to act around puppies and know that you're there for socialization. If you talk to the breeder of the dog, they may have suggestions of places you could take them. I don't know enough about German Shepherds to know their boundaries very well. I know I'd never take either of my dogs to parades or Halloween events though. Just too much excitement and stuff going around.

Pet stores are pretty good though ;D Obedience classes also work well for puppy socialization. Only reason I'll ever be taking my puppies to obedience classes now will be just for the socialization aspect of it.

These are all just ideas though, and I in no way am a certified dog trainer or anything so you may want to do more research as far as socialization goes. ^^ Once you get to know your puppy you should know better the places s/he can go.

Mkay! Thank you! I know last years Christmas Parade had like 20 horses in it with bells on their saddles and bridles. About 10 Motorcycles in it and a few old cars. So those are all pretty loud. Prolly wouldn't be good for a puppy. Maybe when he got older though?
Yeah, when he gets older if you feel confident he's fine around loud noises, that'd be good. Working with hunting dogs, I know loud noises can ruin a dog (gun dog training takes a lot of time and tedious work to make sure the dog doesn't get afraid of gunshots) We have had two gun shy dogs, lmao. Scared of gunshots, thunder and fireworks. Not very fun at all around the fourth of july

I forget what we did with our two newest dogs. They aren't afraid of those noises at all though.

Pick a German name! I like to name dogs after their breed's country of origin. lol Does that make since?
Lol I chose a Spanish name for my Shiba.. And Shibas are Japanese XD
My other Shiba has an Irish name XD Even worse.

But yea a German name would be cool. Like Adele for a female, or Alwin for a male =]

Haha i was gonna say that we use fireworks a lot around here so maybe that will add up to a gunshot? plus my family hunts a lot so s/he would be around guns a lot
