Artistic Advice?

Ok, so for those of you who don't know. . . I'm in high school, but taking college art classes. Last year, I took College Studio 2D Design. You need a 3 on the test in order to pass and get free college credit to any college you wish to go to when you get out of high school. Well, I passed. I posted a while back my projects I made in that class on my DA. Now this year, I'm doing College Studio Painting & Drawing.

So my first assignment is pretty cool. Not anything in my alley at all but I'm up for a challenge! I have to paint/draw (preferably paint) a Picasso themed painting. Using his style. . . Its called Cubism. And well, its not really his style but if you want to know what Cubism is, look up his work. I already have a general idea of what I want to paint. . . Its really hard to describe but I'll try my best. . .

I want to paint a Cubism eye right in the middle of the canvas, with faint hands in the background looking as if they're trying to grab the eye. Then in the foreground, I want it to look as if broken glass is shattering all around the eye.

I know, you're prolly thinking, how the hell is she gonna do that?! O.o But don't worry, I have a sketch and its bomb-shizill ^_- I just need some opinions.

I need a color. Yes, just one color. A base color. Like blue, red, green, yellow. . . So on. I want to take that color, and make it the whole canvas. Then I'll use its shades and sort to make the painting. The thing is, I can't decide what color would grab the viewer's eye mostly! So. . . What color, if you could grab a paint brush right now, would you paint my painting?

Here are some examples of Cubism just so you know the style -
<a href="http://wings.buffalo.edu/cas/english/faculty/conte/syllabi/377/Images/Picasso_MaJolie.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://wings.buffalo.edu/cas/english/faculty/conte/syllabi/377/Images/Picasso_MaJolie.jpg
<a href="http://www.bloomsbury.com/media/Guernica_432_243.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.bloomsbury.com/media/Guernica_432_243.jpg
<a href="http://thinkingaboutart.blogs.com/art/images/picasso_2-thumb.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://thinkingaboutart.blogs.com/art/images/picasso_2-thumb.jpg

**note** I did not paint these. I just looked Cubism up on google.

So, any ideas? ^_^

 • The first color that I thought of was blue.
You could do a light blue as the background and then darker, more vibrant blues to make it even more catchy. That's just me though. XDD

But that sounds like SUCH a cool class!
Will you take pictures of your finished works for VP to see? =D

 • Thats what I was thinking too! I was also thinking maybe like an orange/red/yellow shades? . . .
But for some reason, I think the blue idea will fit into the theme of the image.

I also changed my mind about just having it an 'eye'. . . I want it to be a woman's face. lol ^_^
Thankies Dreameth!

And I intend on posting as soon as its done for your critique ^_- lol
 • I have no clue on how to be artistic! But I would love to see it when you're done!

 • I think blues if you want to focus on making the woman's face/hands seem more dramatic, and reds/yellows/oranges if you want to make the whole thing more colorful/vibrant.

I'd have to see the actual sketch to decide for myself, but from what I know of what it would look like, I personally would go for the blues.

MY critique? XDDD
You probably know more about painting and such than I do. x3 I only spent two out of my 8 week art class a few years ago on painting.
We did the grid method and then put our own twist and colors into it.
So I picked an image of a tiger with a grey/green/yellow toned background and made it more vibrant. It turned out horribly, but I think it'd be neat to do it on canvas rather than flimsy paper! You'll have to give me tips! 8D

 • Syb - ^_^ Thankies! I'm excited about getting it done >.> Thats all I'm gonna work on this weekend.
I have to finish the Cubism one and then I have two other projects I'm working on.

A self protrait in an interesting pose/lighting affect and a dramatic still life o.o The self protrait is ALMOST done. . . I'm OCD when it comes to my work and have to touch up certain details. I'll post that hopefully this weekend. . . The still life, I'm doing that in pencil and god -_- Its taking forever. I'm not a pencil shading girl. I can draw decently but shading. . . Ugh. That'll be done hopefully by this coming Friday ^_^

Dreameth - You to me are one of the best artists on VP. You've always given me helpful critque. You don't have to be a painter in order to tell someone what you think of their work and what you might think would be better lol ^_^ <3 Hahaha and I've only been seriously painting for about 6 months. I'm not a pro XD

And yeah, you're right. I think I'll save the yellows and reds for another piece. This is going to be prolly all blue. ^_^
 • Aww! Thank you! < 33333
But that's true about not having to be a painter to critique a painting.
It's just like the fact that you don't have to draw to tell something's wrong with a drawing!
Anyone can spot something wrong!

Ahaha! Still, you know more than I do, I'm sure! =D

 • Hahahaha thank you ^_^ <3
I'm not sure if I'm going to do acrylics, water colors, or oils. . . I think I may do oils >.> Hmmm. . .

Thanks for the advice! ^_^
