Elphie - The Amazon Parrot
<img src="http://i55.tinypic.com/2e65u1h.png"; alt="http://i55.tinypic.com/2e65u1h.png"; class="bb-image" /><br><br><span style="font-size:80">Dreamy got herself a parrot as an early birthday gift! <br>This is Miss Elphie(if you know anything about Wicked, think 'Elphaba')! She's a thirteen year old double yellow headed amazon parrot!<br><br>I purchased her from an owner who had a broken family and not much time for her. She didn't even have any toys which generally parrots, especially the more intelligent ones LOVE. And actually need to keep their mind stimulated. And they need it as well to keep at a good weight.<br><br>So right now she's sitting on her cage looking at her reflection. She's called down so much since I got her! Her feathers have smoothed out, she's letting me handle her, she's taking food from my hand(loves apples!), etc. She hasn't talked much yet but she has said "Hey!". "Byeeee", and "Where's the deer?" . x3<br><br>Her first owner had her for twelve years and was a hunter, so he had a lot of deer heads/skins/whatnot and no doubt he taught her that. But once work got him busier he gave her to the lady I purchased her from.<br><br>She seems to like rubbing her beak around on the cage bars. I definitely need to get her to a vet to double check her weight, since she's a bit overweight from lack of exercise and a fattening diet which I'm going to be switching her off of once she's a bit more at home here. I don't want to do too many changes at once. <br>Her nails haven't been trimmed in at least a year, her previous owner wasn't very educated on bird care. But there's a really good bird specialist about 45 minutes away, so that'll be nice. And an emergency vet about 20 minutes away in the other direction.<br>I'm really happy with her. Her ad on the website ended on my birthday so it was sort of like fate! Haha.<br><br>So yeah! This is little Elphie! Hopefully I can get videos and more pictures soon. I have a few others, but she looks super ruffled and I don't want people to think she's ill. x3 But I just took this this morning. </span>
