Is it that hard to just try and learn talk properly?

edited February 2011 in Vent
Alright first off, yes I understand there are little kids who play this game. I understand that maybe all of us have not learned proper grammer and spelling. Trust me I am no where near to perfect but I find it really hard to trust someone when they are no where close. When you do not use words "shood, prises, ges, nd wen" I find it really hard to trust you with any services. Is it also really a ton to ask to have someone capatalize their "I's" or proper nouns. I can not read what you are writting if you can't use a comma or a period mark. I can't stand it when someone uses a "U" instead of spelling out "you". I mean at least try. In my mind if I see someone who is not using simple grammer and spelling I think "Well if he/she is to lazy to hold the shift bar while typing an "I" then why should I trust them to not be lazy when training a dog or making a graphic for me?" I really don't mind an lol or lmao or haha. But when you don't spell easy words or shorten up words if we are speaking buisness wise I do not want to use your services. If we are friends and talking in a chat speak then that's one thing but I cant do proffesional buisness with someone who says "hay i am selln banerz kno sum1 who migh want 1" I cant take you seriously. I am sorry to anyone this offended but I have to get it off my chest. Thanks.

 • Seriously? I can't either, it is not that difficult to spell check or use the space bar. I pride myself with my spelling and grammar.

No I don't really talk like this. I know what you mean, it's irritating. I don't mean to be mean, but talking like that sort of shows a lack of education, not just laziness. I wouldn't want someone that talked like that to do services for me either.
 • Ugh I get really annoyed with that as well. Naturally, I have a gift for spelling and grammar skills. I'm usually really formal with my way of wording and expand my vocabulary quite a bit. I'm quite tolerant of most things though and learn to deal. But I mean, if you send me a paragraph long ad with no puntuation or commas, no capitalization, And horrible spelling ontop of the shortened chat speak? I'm just really gonna be annoyed. Ads are easy to deal with. People hate getting spammed by them and I can understand that. But how difficult is it to just hit delete? That's what I do. So yeah, it's one issue receiving ads in the first place, and another when they're set up like that.

I've also noticed constant spelling errors on breeds that's Right There in front of you. For god sakes, if you can't remember, just copy and paste then. It's pretty sad if you're calling yourself an animal lover or dog lover and can't even get it right even after being seen enough. For example, huskies. Siberian Huskies are my favorite domesticated canine so I take this issue a bit more to heart. But simple tip: Husky -singular (just one), huskies -plural (more than one). And other are wolves. Favorite nondomesticated canine. Example: elf -singular, elves -plural. Wolf -singular, wolves -plural. Leaf -singular, leaves -plural. It's -really- simple and I just get rather irritated when I constantly see "huskys" and "wolfs". Just do not call yourself a lover or claim to speacialize in the breeds if you can't even get common knowledge right.

As for what Brutis said, I agree entirely. I know one person in particular who can't spell worth of crap and their services are horrible. I had a dispute with them because they had no idea what the heck they were doing (training) and wasted years on my dogs Ontop of taking forever. So I demanded a refund after trying to cooperate with them for like 2 weeks and finally got fed up. Then another 2 weeks stretched on while trying to contact them about my issues. So when I was being ignored (I knew this because they'd log on everyday and my dogs was "worked on" further), I finally took the initiative to send in a ticket for being scammed. I eventually got my money back and decided to never use their services again. I also suggest avoiding them at times when they happened to be brought up in conversation. Many people have had troubles with them. It's not a spelling issue, but a further rant with that subject are people who upgrade and have no idea what they're doing. LEARN first and practice with your own dogs before trying to offer services, get tips from other Sponsors. Preferably, Before you get the upgrade. Don't just do it on a whim, it's entirely stupid. You're screwing people over by not proficiently completing the task, and it's asking for trouble when they realize this and call you out on it. Personally, I'm the type to go for dirt cheap prices. But the thing is, I also look for Quality service. Done within 24 hours, at a price I can agree with paying, the trainer is friendly or at least not rude, and they do exactly what is asked. So when "superiors" have mentioned tips on how to tell if a person doesn't know what they are doing or has the potential to scam you, it's really not always necessarily true because I have quite a few people I go to. And lets just say, whatever I need done, I never pay over 200k. No matter the stats, or type of training/how many years it takes. But in that case with that One particular person, I was wrong. The price was in fact, too good to be true, and it screwed me over.

Anyway. I, myself, sometimes use chat speak. For instance, I use "kool" instead of "cool" because for one: it irks me how the c's can look so much like the o's with certain fonts, two: I've oddly liked the letter k a lot anyway. I use "lol, lmao, haha, lolz" a lot just mainly because I like to add emotion/feeling to what I'm saying. I'd rather my message be taken as a joke if it's meant to be funny as opposed to being taken seriously/offensively. So on the emotion/feeling note, I also use a bit of "roleplaying" such as *smiles*, *laughs*, *tackles*, *hugs*, *tears up and cries*, *yawns*. My system is rather complex..you just usually have to get to know me to understand. But just because someone might use different spelling, I know that doesn't always make them uneducated. I also use what I call "toddler talk" which is my lingo when I feel like being cute. Such as "skettios" for "spaghettios", I have been known to intentionally use "I is.." or "you is.."/"is you..(followed by the reaminder of the question and a ? for punctuation)" instead of the proper form. I clearly know the proper form, I just sometimes like to use what I wanna use and feel like best fits. But that stuff mainly goes on with close friends and such that I talk to more regularly. But when you know someone actually has spelling issues such as that because they either don't care or don't know and it's rather ridiculous/overwhelming, you just really cannot take that person seriously. It is a good practice to try to spell a word you don't know by typing/writing what it sounds like so the receiving end can have a basic idea of what you're trying to say, but when the conversation continues on and you keep repeating particular words with what you want to say and actually have the correct spelling but they Still don't catch on? It's like yeah..I'm done with you now. Common sense, people. If you talk to others that spell things a certain way and you're no where close, chances are, they're spelling it correctly. And if it's a common enough word, how hard is it to catch on? Even subconciously, it may only take a week. Fewer days if you actually realize it and Try to catch on. Meh, I don't know. You'd hope people had a tad bit of common sense even if they weren't advanced in educational skills.

Just as a disclaimer, the point of vents are meant to be open to opinion. Especially ones that may be a bit harsh and/or a bit dramatic. My opinion/judgments are always based off of facts and observations. None of this was intented to offend anyone and the word "you" is generalized so it's speaking to everyone, no one in particular and not necessarily the particular viewer. Some things may be more directed towards those who can relate, some messages were directed to those who really do have an issue with these things. But most of it is just helpful tips and/or reality checks. Hmm..I wonder how long I've actually been here typing all of this XD
