Thank Heavens for Dog Tags!!!!

edited February 2011 in General Discussion
Im not sure if any of yall remember that i got a Mini Aussie around 7 or 8 months ago. Well he LOVES spending time outside. He had been outside ALL day and he hadn't wanted to come in yet so i let him play because it isnt raining and its warm enough for him to still be happy. Well at around 8 pm i get a phone call from a random number in town. I have NO idea whom it is so i answer and someone tells me theyve found a little black and white dog with a dog tag that had my number. My only black and white dog is Scout and i was staring right at her and i ask if the dog is more of a bluish color because Ein is Blue Merle. They say yes and i have to get in my car and go pick my puppy up because he FOLLOWED THEM HOME! We live 5 miles and across a HIGHWAY from them. UGH! I pull into their driveway and the lady comes out and Ein is right behind her. I call his name and he comes slinking over to me cause he can TELL he's in trouble before i even say anything to him. I pick him up and thank the lady for finding him and calling me. I get him in the car and drive home. He goes INSTANTLY to his cage. Ive found a chain for him and his new found solitary confinement when he goes outside. I absolutely HATE having to chain dogs to trees but if he's gonna follow people home i have no other option! So all in all.... PLEASE PLEASE people get nametags for your dogs! Im lucky Ein had one on! If he hadnt been chased through the woods once already by our neighbors dogs and my mom LUCKILY found him after 2 days of searching then i doubt he wouldve had one on tonight but luckily he did and it saved me from a WORLD of panic and maybe even my little boy's life.

<br><br>No i actually live on a 100 acre farm and he KNOWS his boundaries. My mom thinks he followed Piper *her dog whom likes to travel* led him out into the woods and he got seperated from her and found the road and their car.
  • Well obviously he doesn't know his boundaries if he keeps leaving...lol, jk jk. My dogs know their boundaries too, they won't even walk out the front door of my house if it's open unless given permission.
  • Dx. lol. My moms dog USED too then she met a stray whom taught her the ways of the wild and now she's trying to teach Ein
  • lol, i dont let strays near my dog. i don't want Lady and The Tramp happening.
  • Piper is neutered lol. Momma's biggest worry is her getting shot because she's like a tan husky shaped mutt. Georgeous dog but not good in the woods where she can be mistaken for a wolf. Both of my dogs are unneutered but i watch them closely. Scout goes into seclusion when she is puppy ready. She's 7 and has never had a litter. She's never run off either. Scared me a few times by being so far away i cant hear her back when i call her.... but she's never run off. But Ein he seems to just get into bad situation even though he doesnt LEAVE on purpose.
  • None of my dogs are nuetered. But they are very well trained and never wonder off or go anywhere without permission. When my LaLa goes into heat she gets really fiesty, she won't let any of the males near her though, she's four and hasn't had any babies yet : ) I let her wonder off every once in a while, but she always comes back as soon as she hears me calling or sees me giving the signal to come back in.
  • Thats how scout is. Last time she was in heat the stray was around and Scout ended up getting out for 2 hours and attacked the dog when he started in on her. And still no puppies.
