The newest baby

As most of you all know my dog (Sox) ran away in December. We never found her, and since she was old and starting to get sick weve decided she probably isnt coming back. Ever since I was born Ive had one or more dogs in my house, so this three months without a dog has been killing me. Well a week ago we got a new puppy (: His name is Hunter. <img src="http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb166/Bam13_676/Hunter.jpg"; alt="http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb166/Bam13_676/Hunter.jpg"; class="bb-image" /> He is supposed to ba a lab/australian shepherd mix, but they werent 100% sure. He has quickly become a momas boy. Hes very good with potty training and has only had a couple accidents. He is about 9 weeks old. Hes kind of fat but I love him anyhow. He got an orange collar but once he gets a bit bigger Im going to get him a John Deere one (: The only problem Im having is he is constantly biting/chewing. Its fine when its on his toys but he keeps biting/chewing people too and we cant get him to quit. Any tips?

Hmmm Well if it was him chewing furniture I would say there's some type of a spray that makes wood surfaces taste bitter... for people maybe just put him in a crate (if he doesn't like that, that is) when he does chew... Anyways, he's 100% adorable!

Nooo dont steal him! Hes mine! (: He just chews on whatever. Like if hes sitting on your lap he wants to chew your hand/arm. If you give him a toy hell chew that instead but if he drops it or gets bored with it he goes back to you or the couch/chair/whatever your sitting on if he can get it. Other than that hes perfect. Doesnt even bark unless you get him really excited. And thank you (:

He's cute : ) When my puppy would chew on people and bite too hard it was only a matter of telling him NO in a stern voice. For my more hard headed dog that wouldn't stop biting even when I told him NO I would squeek like I was hurt and stop playing with him whenever he bit or chewed on me. That quickly got him to stop. When the dog is really attached to you he will refrain from hurting you of course. SO when you act like it really hurts when he bites you he'll get off of that habit knowing that it hurts you. When you turn away from him it shows that he gets no attention if he bites...that should work...worked for me : )

Aw, very cute. If he bites just make a really loud, sharp noise, it should startle him, then praise him for not biting.

Don't crate him if you're trying to get him to stop chewing. That just makes him chew things in his kennel, like the bed. Kira's gone through... so many beds. To the point where we've stopped buying them for her. She'll eat blankets too. xD; As for him chewing on people, like everyone else has said, a loud noise (clap your hands?) or a word you don't use often that he can start to know of as a 'negative' word works. For me it's 'Hey!' because I don't use that word except to scold (and have found I use it on my husband now too... Heh.) or, if you don't mind being a bit rough, hold his muzzle shut when he does. Now Kira only mouths Vincent, because he lets her (which I still disapprove of. xD) Uhm... There was something else I was going to mention here... About puppies... And stuff... Oh yeah! Play with everything on his body. Everything. Ears, mouth, tongue, teeth, tail, paws, individual toes... Stick your fingers in his ears (not too deep), stick your fingers down his throat (again, not too deep), etc. It'll make things a lot easier in the future. (Ear cleanings, nail clippings, tooth brushings, etc). Brush his teeth too. Use a cute little puppy-made toothbrush with flavored paste. Brushing your dogs teeth can add a good six years onto your dog's life, so the vet claims.

He was doing really good with not biting but then he was alone for most of the day today and he started doing it again D< Thanks for all the suggestions though!

We had the same problem with Clover, we tried the sprays but... She likes them! Bitter/Sour you name it, she likes it. What got her to stop chewing on us and the furniture was... Tobasco sauce. It sure got her to stop quick and we had an empty pop can that we filled with coins and everytime we caught her doing something "bad" we shook it and she would stop. Just one quick hard shake was all you needed. It worked as well when she was digging. It was quite funny to watch as my fiancee got it on video. We would throw the pop can NEAR her and I would need to pretend that it wasn't me who did it. It worked though after a few times.

I did something similar with my cat! She kept trying to get in the hamster cage, so I put a jar of coins in front of it so everytime she jumped up on the dresser she would knock it off and it scared the crap out of her so she stopped xD

Puppies when they bite each other too hard will let out a loud cired or yip so sound kind to let the other puppie know it hurts maybe try that?

you should use a clicker you get him ised to it by clicking then giving him the treat and then he will know when its clicked he gets the treat this is how i taught most of my dogs everytime you tell him to stop (biting or chewing) and he sops click it and give him the treat

"I would squeek like I was hurt and stop playing with him whenever he bit or chewed on me." <---- Would be the best option as it is what his litter mates would do if he hurt them.
