Conformation Dog Help

Ok so I have a question concerning a near perfect conformation dog I bred. This dog is near perfect according to the breed standard. It's stars and height are dead on what the breed standard lists and it's only a fraction overweight, .0466 overweight to be exact. Its been trained and stat maxed and is being boarded to raise A/C. I did a few test runs with it to see how it placed and it's not doing well at all. the highest it has placed is 5th. Other than its A/C only being around 203 I don't understand why its not placing better. I have 100 in handling skill as well. So any insight into why its not doing better will be much appreciated.

<a href="http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=dog/view&id=2296459"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">Confro Dog

Also I ran my own conformation events and the results were my dog was showing more aggression, stamina and speed than that of its breed. >_< I don't get this since it matches the breed standard page.

 • You know, I've often thought about getting into confy on here. I wonder if it's at all like confy in the horse game.

I know over there, the numbers actually are what is scored, not the titles (stars). The description is a general guide. A horse can be exactly on as far as titles, but be further off score than one that is just slightly above or below, because the slightly off is actually closer to perfect than the one that is perfect according to the description. So if the stars are supposed to be at 3 for the breed and the change between 3 and 4 is say 100, if absolute perfect for the dog is 97, a dog that is at 101 with 4 stars is closer to perfect than one that is at 80 with 3 stars, if that makes sense.

Not sure how you would find the hidden stats on here though. On there, you can trial in conformation and see how off the stats are and from there, make an educated guess where the numbers need to be for perfect.

 • Thanks for the reply Bama and I was thinking along the same lines as you. If only I could figure out the breed's actual stats and breed a perfect specimen lol. I know on here if you run the event it will show you how many points are deducted for them being over or under, wonder if this could be an indication of how far off the stats are or if its just a general point deduction for being over or under. Will have to experiment and see.
 • If I had more time, you might have just triggered my enthusiasm for helping you test, but that's not to be.

What I might suggest, because it does play a part on the other game, is to try just aging a dog (no training at all) and run it through 4 conformation events, then try training it and entering 4 more to see if there's a difference. Over there, training does affect the conformation score, usually negatively, unless you know how to train that specific animal and the specific stats to a specific point. It kinda makes sense, if a dog is born absolutely perfect and you increase its strength stat, it will be stronger than the breed standard, making the score go off. But if a dog is born weaker than the standard, training in strength might make it reach the breed standard.

But that would be my starting point. If conformation is random, you'll know without having to train. If it's not random, and training changes the score, you can start with not training conformation dogs to try and figure out where the starting stats might be at. If training doesn't change the score, it's gonna be harder to find the "perfect" numbers because they are hidden and are a formula based on the stats.

 • Thanks again Bama this is some great tips on things to try. I've started working on them again. I think First I'll try a "perfect" dog and not train and see how it goes. Here's hoping to figure some things out :]
