Congrats! I hate lead changes! My first show horse is super sticky and i could never get her to do them but my two other show horses both do them. Its a great feeling when they finally click with a horse!
Thanks haha. We were just flopping around barrels and I asked not expecting a response and he just did it on the turn! I was so happy. xD

Btw, I think he likes doing barrels. Me too.
Just be careful on barrels! If you pony is mentally excitable I wouldnt let him even try them. My mare was blown out with being on barrels for just 3 months. Took me a year to undo the damage and teach her it was okay to chill out. If i even put her back on the pattern, even for a few days she'd go right back into that mindset and i would have to redo all the training. And she still gets REALLY excited at shows. Have you ever tried some horsemanship patterns? The ones where there are a LOT of flying lead changes? Those are what i use to work with my horses on lead changes.
One time I was trotting on a grand prix horse that belongs to a friend of my moms and all of a sudden she took off and I couldn't stop her. And I was only like 10. xD it freaked me out. xD
Dx i would be freaked out too! I was standing behind some barrel horses at a rodeo once and they scared me by me just watching them. I watched one jitter around and as soon as his rider let him go he literally jumped VERY high to where all four feet were at LEAST 4 feet off the ground and as soon as he touched the ground he shot off like a rocket. I thought he had gotten away from her. It was terrifying! How anyone could keep their seat through that beats me! If i EVER run barrels... it will NOT be on a horse like that!!!
From that moment on i decided i would NEVER train a horse to do barrels. That scared me waaaay too much!! Plus (no offense to any barrel racers!!!) but barrel racers tend to be REALLY snooty and better than everybody else.
They are! I had one tell me i ruined my mare because i slowed her down. They ride around like maniacs and tell us (this is from Rodeo Queens Contestant point of view) that we need to get our worthless horses out of the way. Even though in any horse world my mare is definitally NOT worthless! Reining trained red roan AQHA? Shown, completely handled, no problems? And apparently she's worthless because i dont run her. Grills my biscuits!
