I'm pretty mad at the local Animal Control Officer right now. He's an uncaring....something I wish I could say, but would get in big doodoo for saying on here. For the past 3 months or so we've had stray cats (1 mother and 4 kittens), so we called JerkFace so that he could bring them to the shelter (its a no-kill shelter). Well he's taken his sweet time getting here (because he "had to go camping"), and guess what? Now the mother and 3 babies are gone. I'm assuming a fox or something got them, since I live in the country. There's one little gray kitten left. He's freaking out, constantly meowing. I meow back to him, and he almost comes to me, but he's too scared. I made him a little house out of a wire dog crate, with plastic and a blanket over it to keep him warm and dry. Anyways, getting back to JerkFace. He called last night to tell me that he was bringing live traps over today, and I said "Oh good, I hope we can catch the baby". Guess what he said.... "If we do we do, if we don't we don't. Simple as that, oh well." SERIOUSLY!? I wanted to yell at him soo bad, but I was afraid that he wouldnt bring the traps if I did yell at him. So, the traps are here now, and I really hope the little guy goes in one. If he does, I'm bringing him inside, it's getting really chilly at night.
/endofrant

 • That is horrible! D:
I know how it feels though, my parents live in a county where there is no shelters. The only shelters nearby are all about 1 hour+ trips so all we have is a county animal control aka "pound".
If you call them about stray cats this is what they will tell you, "trap em' and get the gun out".
No joke.
And in the area my parents live one of their neighbors has a major problem with cats, None of them are fixed so they just keep reproducing an the owner doesn't do anything about it. All she does is love on the kittens and once they get older throws them outside.
My parents take care of a few cats that are outside but there are too many to take care of.
It's rather sad to see them go crazy when my parents just take scraps out to them.. ://
I know my parents would love to take the cats to the shelter themselves but once again there is too many and that would cost quite a bit in gas.
Just sad and annoying.

If you can get proof that the owner throws them out and doesn't feed them/provide medical care then you may be able to get a case for animal abandonment going against them.

Also, in both cases, is there a local rescue group you can contact? Even if they only do trap/fix/release it's still better than allowing the cats to run around reproducing like crazy.

 • @ Tiff: :O "get the gun out"!? Wow, such compassion >.> That owner shouldn't be allowed to have any animals if she's that irresponsible, noyt even a goldfish.

@ Trianna: There aren't any local rescues around here, trust me I tried looking for one.

 • I feel the pain in this thread. Living in the country myself the only local animal shelter is a kill shelter. Also living in the country as I do animal control isn't likely to come out or do much unless it is a dire situation. We have issues with stray cats running wild and even dogs that are just left loose to wonder about as they will. Since we live in the country nothing ever gets done, leash laws are not enforced and its just a lot of issues that never get dealt with...
 • Guess I'm just lucky, I live in a rural area too, but we have a couple of local no kill shelters, and a few rescue groups... plus some individuals that trap/neuter + vac/release ferals and feed them.

Maybe if you have a community forum online you might be able to find someone on there who'd be willing to take the cats/kittens in?
Er.. my parents live in a town where there is maybe like 1k people xD
The school I went to was K-12, 300 students..
and alot of the people in that town..are.. Not good?
So having a community forum is like.. way out the window..
and where my parents actually live.. I'm surprised there hasn't been a house blown up honestly because of some usage of things.
The closest no-kill shelter I know of around my parents is where they got our cat Pepper but that was about an hour and half trip..
And the shelter wasn't doing to good either so I don't think they would be able to drive down and get like 30+ cats and take care of them per say.
They may be able to but I highly doubt it. ://

 • So, some good news: The little kitten was caught this morning....finally. He managed to get out of three traps before he was caught >.< AND! There was a suprise!! We had thought the mother cat had been killed by something, but at 6am we heard another trap close, and there stood momma kitty :) I hope the other 3 kittens show up, maybe they are still alive too.
So now the baby and Georgia (I couldn't stand to not name the mother) are probably at the shelter by now, I'm guessing in quarantine. I'm really happy that they'll get shots/dewormed/spayed and neutered. I think the baby will make someone a really good pet, he's very sweet. Georgia probably will too, but she needs a lot of trust work done.

 • Sorry for hi-jacking your post Rockie :p
But I just wanted to let everyone know (if anyone cares), that I found out today (because I am at my parents for the next week) that their neighbor's husband/boyfriend found a group about an hour away that is willing to come down, pick some cats up and take them back to get them spay/neutered. Which is great news. On the bad side, one of the females are pregnant again..-smh-
But, hopefully it gets under control and they all get spayed/neutered including the new kittens when they are old enough.
And I took a quick pic tonight lol, I went out on the porch to feed 3 of cats we kind of take care of and well.. about a quarter of the colony decided to come and visit, per say.
<a href="http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa387/TiffanyMiddaugh1993/IMG_2403.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">The little ones are the most recent litter that she threw out
<a href="http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa387/TiffanyMiddaugh1993/IMG_2404.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">The grey and white one is one of Mittens brothers, he is one of the cats we feed.
<a href="http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa387/TiffanyMiddaugh1993/IMG_2406.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">Mittens brother.. he needs a name XD
