I use photoshop. I played around with Gimp for awhile but I don't remember if it had a liquify function....

Thank you! I really liked how the acd one turned out too. And for the aussie pup's background, it's just a mix of colors with a liquified layer on top and then a patchwork layer I think. Not too hard, just gotta play around with it.
